Important Update: Anti Money Laundering Laws and Identity Checks

As of July 1st, 2026, we have to verify the identities of both the seller and buyer before we can proceed with a property sale.

These identity checks are part of recent changes to Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) legislation. They are mandatory not only for Lydia Kirn Real Estate but for all real estate agencies in Australia. There are no exceptions – this identity check is a legal obligation even for our long-term clients, partners and friends once they choose to purchase or sell.

We at LK Real Estate treasure the ongoing personal relationship that we enjoy with our clients. Our work is based on mutual trust and the idea of making the marketing and sales process smooth and efficient.

That’s why we outsourced the identity verifications to a specialised company called AML Assured who will fulfill this new legal requirement.

The actual check will, in most cases, take less than five minutes to complete. Both sellers and buyers of a property will receive a link on their phone that allows them to upload a photo ID such as a driver license. It is that simple.

Only if the structure of a transaction is more complicated such as involving companies, trusts or overseas ownership and financing, some additional information may be required.

All information collected is stored safely and is protected by Australia’s privacy laws.
